Neo-Palladian Houses

Lovely article, wonderful house. We should all be grateful that such a great house is in such good hands.

However, Mount Airy was not the first example of a neo-Palladian villa in the colonies. Rosewell Plantation, in Gloucester County, Virginia, was begun 30 years earlier. Until it was swept by fire in 1916, Rosewell was also much larger. Tragically, unlike Mt Airy, Rosewell was left to collapse after its fire.

Again, Mount Airy is a lovely house. A precious survivor.
