On Garden Day in Lynchburg, the public are invited to tour the octagonal house and explore the pre-restoration landscape with handheld devices that provide information about Jefferson's ornamental landscape, the farm and the plantation community at Poplar Forest through video and audio clips.
Jack Gary, Director of Archaeology and Landscapes will lead special landscape tours (time TBD). Learn more from Poplar Forest archaeologists as they investigate more fully Jefferson's ornamental landscape that he designed at Poplar Forest and take the first steps towards restoring the tree clumps, oval beds and rows of trees around the retreat house in 2011. Poplar Forest has recently been selected as an offical restoration project of the Lynchburg Garden Club. Read more about the partnership in the press release.
The special landscape tours are included with the regular admission price. Present your Virginia Garden Day (Lynchburg only) ticket to receive free admission for house and grounds tours. Please call (434) 534-8120 for more information.
