Walk into the exhibit hall of the Virginia Clay Festival in Stanardsville, Virginia, and you’ll be amazed at the variety of ways artists can imagine and interpret the world, all using the same medium of clay. Explore the wonderful, colorful displays of pottery, sculpture and jewelry and talk to the artists about their work. Visit three demonstration areas where artists take turns showing how raw clay is transformed into graceful pottery on the potter’s wheel or how clay work is decorated in many styles, each using unique methods and glazes. Purchase art from the Virginia Clay Festival to bring beauty into your home or to turn the daily drinking of tea or coffee into a celebration with a handcrafted mug. Live acoustic music is provided by local Irish, Old Time and blues bands. Artisan food trucks offer delish sustenance. Greene County is in the scenic foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a marvelous getaway with unique cottages, cabins, camping and hotels. Potters and clay artists from across Virginia will gather in Stanardsville on September 18 & 19, 2021. Each year volunteers from Greene County and beyond help organize and run this fabulously fun festival. Thank you to all of them!
