Les Yeux du Monde presents
Summer Scenes: New Paintings by Isabelle Abbot and Priscilla Whitlock
17 July – 16 August 2015
Opening Friday, 17 July, 5:30-7:30
Les Yeux du Monde presents Summer Scenes: New Paintings by Isabelle Abbot and Priscilla Whitlock from17 July through 16 August, 2015. This exhibition pairs two of Charlottesville’s favorite plein air painters, Isabelle Abbot and Priscilla Whitlock. Abbot received her BA in painting from the University of Virginia, studying with Richard Crozier and Phil Geiger and then her MFA from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Abbot parallels the process of layering brushstrokes to the experience of walking into a landscape. The experience is shared with the viewer not only because of the immediacy of the brushwork but also because of the unique high vantage point. Whitlock has worked internationally as artist in residence and as a fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and has won many awards for her art. She paints small studies as well as large-scale diptychs and triptychs in oil on site in central Virginia and also on the southern coast of North Carolina. She states that “as the scale changes, the subject matter is more about the physicality and energy of the paint and less about landscape as scenery.”
There will be an opening reception Friday, 17 July from 5:30 – 7:30 and a lunch with the artists on Wednesday August 5 at noon (reservations required, $15, free for Collectors Club). The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday 1 – 5 and by appointment. For more information, call 434-973-5566 or visit www.LesYeuxduMonde.com.
