Artwork inspired by all environments is a part of this show – urban and rural, industrialized and primitive, coastal and arid, and the beauty and destruction created by Mother Nature. Works of all media are featured. Artists were encouraged to explore unique perspectives, literally and figuratively, as well as varying moods and color.
‘Scapes will be juried by Nora M. Heimann, associate professor of art history and the Chair of the Art Department at The Catholic University of America.
Taking Form features three-dimensional sculptures, forms, structures, and creations by 20 Art League artists juried by Rebecca Cross, co-owner of Cross-MacKenzie Arts in Georgetown.
The sculptural work Cross selected spans a variety of media and styles. Traditional and contemporary figurative work, thought provoking narrative work, and structural works are represented. Taking Form will be featured in The Art League Gallery concurrently with the annual ‘Scapes: International Landscape Show exhibit, traditionally a predominantly two-dimensional exhibit.
Cross selected "Form" by Kreshnik Xhiku as the Best in Show and winner of the Monkeith Said Memorial Award. Honorable mentions were given to Elissa Farrow-Savos for "Rooted," Julia Bloom for "Untitled #4," and Tony diFrancesco for "Civilization." Awards will be presented for both exhibits during the Opening Reception on Thursday, August 13 at 7:00 pm.
