MCLEAN, Virginia (December 26, 2015) — The Junior League of Northern Virginia (JLNV) will host its 3rd annual American Girl Fashion Show®, “Styles of Today and Yesterday,” April 23-24, 2016 at the Sheraton Pentagon City, located at 900 South Orme St., Arlington, VA. With a total of five fashion shows – three on Saturday and two on Sunday - featuring more than 200 girls from throughout the DC metro region, this fun-filled event for girls and their families, friends and favorite dolls celebrates the experience of being a girl throughout history through a colorful presentation of historical and contemporary fashions. Attendees at each show will enjoy refreshments, enter to win door prizes and learn how clothing has changed over the years to reflect history, culture and girls’ individual styles.
“As an organization committed to developing the potential of women, we’re thrilled to once again host the American Girl Fashion Show®, and educate and inspire young girls in our community as we showcase the unique experiences and expressionism of characters throughout history and today,” said JLNV President Beatriz Duque Long. “Each of the five shows will feature girls from throughout our region who build confidence and celebrate being a girl as they walk down the runway surrounded by family and friends.”
Individual tickets, ranging from $40-$50, and seven different group packages starting at $119, are available for purchase through the JLNV website. Attendees may also pre-order exclusive American Girl merchandise for pick up on-site, including items exclusive to American Girl Fashion Shows®, as well as reserve a spot for their dolls at our American Girl Fashion Show® Doll hair salon.
Proceeds from the sale of both tickets and merchandise support the JLNV’s community initiatives focused on empowering families to make healthy eating and active living a priority. Since 1958, the Junior League of Northern Virginia has been a driving force in our community by promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The JLNV is committed to reducing the number of children impacted by obesity by empowering families to make healthier choices. Childhood obesity has broad health consequences for children and families, and affects 1 in 5 children in Northern Virginia.
These programs include: cooking classes with teens and parents; introducing children to where their food comes from and to basic concepts of nutrition and healthy eating through our Market Explorers and Kids in the Kitchen programs; running our Kid Can monthly program at area family shelters and a swim camp held in the summer and winter; supporting food access and community gardening initiatives; and hosting the Kids in the Kitchen Annual Spring Health Fair, our largest community event that serves hundreds of children.
