Known as the largest and most successful wine auction in the Mid-Atlantic, this year’s Grand Auction will be held at the home of Bob and Eleanor Stanton at Bayville Farms, and will be led by Fritz Hatton, the nation’s leading wine auctioneer, along with appraiser, historian, and host of PBS’s “History Detectives,” Elyse Luray. The Grand Auction begins with the preview reception at noon with gourmet cuisine prepared by ten of the region’s top chefs. Auction highlights include:
• Rare and highly collectible wines
• Trips ranging from weekend getaways to exotic vacations
• Dinners at many of the area’s top restaurants
• Luxury merchandise
• Lifestyle packages
“The Grand Auction is such a crucial component of our Foundation’s fundraising and educational outreach,” said Michael Glassman, president of the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation. “We are very honored to have such generous sponsors, and wonderful guests, who enjoy celebrating with gourmet food and fine wines, all to benefit such a tremendously influential cause of helping educate our youth.”
This year’s Vintner of the Year dinner is being held in honor of Bart and Daphne Araujo and Araujo Estate, at the Compass Pointe home of Senator and Mrs. Jeffrey McWaters. The dinner features Araujo Estate wines, complemented by cuisine prepared by Chef Jerry Weihbrecht, of Zoe’s Restaurant, Virginia Beach’s first four star restaurant and winner of the Golden Fork Award, Crystal Stem Award, and Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence. Sponsored by Wheeler Interests, the dinner is $1,000 per plate.
Funds raised at these events will go to the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation, which supports ACCESS College Foundation, an organization that helps high school students in South Hampton Roads fulfill their dream of going to college, and other charities focused on education.
