The Designer House has long been the premier home design and decorating event in Central Virginia. This event is the League’s largest fund raiser and is held every other year, with over 10,0000 people attending.
The Designer House for Fall of 2010 is George and Ann Anderson’s Tudor home on Rothesay Circle. Overlooking the James River, this home is expected to draw record crowds. Not only will the House be designed by nationally known interior designers, but the Gardens are being restored and enhanced by prominent landscape architects and designers and may be toured as well. The Carriage House will have an exhibit of rare and antique cars of the era.
Many special events will be held in conjunction with Rothesay: a Bare Bones party will be August 5th before the interior designers beginning their transformation; a black-tie Preview Gala prior to opening to the public; a book signing on September 26th by the author of Genius in the Garden: Charles F. Gillette and Landscape Architecture in Virginia, George Longest; a Boutique for shopping; and a bridge-game day. Garden clubs are encouraged to attend as a club to receive the group rates and to stay for lunch at the Rothesay Café or to plan a special event and utilize the tented Secret Court. The Secret Court will be available to rent for weddings, fundraisers, conferences, classes, exhibits and other galas.
Rothesay will be open to the public September 13 through October 11, 2010. Tickets are $20 at the gate, $15 with 10 or more attending together, $10 with 100 or more attending together.
