Brought together for a brunch on Long Island in the summer of 2012, Megan Murphy and Alex Tobias extended the event into an afternoon by the pool at the home of her friend and his brother, who just happened to be the married hosts of the brunch. “After playing cards by the pool and chatting over dinner, Alex asked me for my number,” recalls Megan. One month later, they had their first date—a seven-course dinner at a New York City restaurant—fitting for Alex, a restaurant consultant, and Megan, a public relations manager for a wine company. Two years later, the pair were vacationing together in Sicily when, after another wonderful dinner, Alex proposed. A native of Vienna, Megan had always loved the historic town of Leesburg, so the nearby Murray Hill stone manor house on the banks of the Potomac River was the perfect venue. The couple exchanged vows on a bluff overlooking the river, and their reception took place inside a converted llama barn decorated with free-flowing floral arrangements.
