The City of Richmond promised its Flying Squirrels a new baseball stadium when the team moved to Richmond in 2010. But today, a plan proposed by Mayor Dwight C. Jones to replace the aging Diamond with a new development, which will also include hotel, office, residential and retail space in addition to a 7,200-seat stadium in the city's historic Shockoe Bottom, has been beset with controversy.
