Explore the material culture and historical life ways of the Tidewater Algonquians during this daylong special event. Historical interpreters examine the Powhatan peoples' seventeenth-century politics and early relationships with the colonists of James Fort. Aquintan and Kecotaughn, two of Pocahontas’ brothers, will be onsite alongside Englishman Capt. Edward Brewster. Female interpreters will demonstrate Algonquian cooking and foodways, and discuss the women’s roles in Powhatan society. Throughout the day, Daniel Abbott, a Nanticoke descendant from the Eastern Shore, will provide demonstrations and discussions of tool making and weaponry, as well as describes uses of flora and fauna.
