The July – August exhibits at ART WORKS include:
SAVE A.R.T. in RVA
A.R.T. (Artistic Realization Technologies) is a nationwide program that enables severely, physically challenged individuals to create art and express their point of views. The Richmond chapter was formerly funded by Easter Seals UCP. Now A.R.T. in RVA is seeking their own non-profit status and will be putting on a full-blown exhibition and SILENT AUCTION fundraiser July 26th, at Art Works in an effort to keep this program alive and flourishing in Richmond. Artwork painted by the program participants will be auctioned. Winners take the auctioned items home with them on show night. More artwork created by the program participants will be installed in the gallery and will be on display and for sale through August 18th. All sales go directly to A.R.T. in RVA as the gallery will take no commission. The exhibit will be in the Jane Sandelin Gallery.
FLORES de FANTASMOS: DAY OF THE DEAD ART by RICHARD BECKER
From Long Island NY, Richard Becker has a BFA in printmaking and visual arts. After moving to Richmond, he starting working in digital imaging. He paints and works in screen-printing.
This exhibit features his unique style and subject matter Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) - a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery, West. .
GROUND METAL ART by STEVEN LLOYD
Steven Lloyd works with metal for cars by day and metal for art by night. He fashions metal into abstract and functional two and three-dimensional art. His award winning metal art will be exhibited in the Centre Gallery East.
PAINTINGS and SCULPTURE by LONNIE HOWARD
Lonnie Dean Howard is a life-long art enthusiast who grew up in Kentucky then moved to the Virginia Mountains in his twenties. Lonnie studied under William Thompson of White Sulphur Springs who took art classes as a young man under the great Robert Henri. More recently Lonnie has taught numerous art classes privately, to school groups, and a local community college.
Lonnie works in oils, acrylics, charcoal, inks and watercolor. His works portray a variety of subjects in many sizes, some quiet large. His work will be displayed in the Corner Gallery.
WILLIAM PARRISH RECENT WORK
William Parrish will display his recent abstract paintings in the Skylight Gallery.
JULY 2013 ALL MEDIA ART SHOW
This exhibit is a focal point of all Art Works’ openings. It is a juried show with cash prizes and is open to all artists and all mediums. Call for Entries is on July 19th and 20th. The juror is Amie Oliver.
