3rd Annual Run for the Dream Weekend, June 1-2, 2013 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Races during the weekend include an 8KRun/Walk, the 2013 USA Masters 8 km National Championships and Kids Fun Run on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday. The 8K Run/Walk and half marathon courses include iconic Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg and end with a final lap in Zable Stadium on the picturesque campus of the College of William & Mary. The half marathon also includes the Colonial Parkway along the scenic James River. The Kids Fun Run will take place in Zable Stadium and includes three lengths: 100 meter sprint, 400 meter dash and mile run.
Race Director Dave McGillivray has served as the race director for the Boston Marathon since 1987 and, with his company DMSE Sports, has produced or consulted on more than 800 athletic events. He and his company designed the course in Williamsburg.
Additional race activities during the weekend include a Health and Fitness Expo (Friday and Saturday), a Post-Race Bash in the Sunken Garden at the College of William & Mary (Saturday and Sunday) and a special Saturday evening event, A Salute to a Nation on Colonial Williamsburg’s Palace Green.
The Run for the Dream benefits An Achievable Dream, a non-profit organization that operates two nationally-recognized schools for at risk children in partnership with Newport News Public Schools. The 8K Run/Walk also benefits three Wounded Warrior programs.
