Karen R. Jackson, Secretary of Technology for the Commonwealth, will lead the Thursday, September 17 Peninsula Executive Leadership Forum (PELF), the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce (VPCC) and Thomas Nelson Community College announced this week. The event runs from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and will take place at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center in Hampton.
Jackson currently serves as the Secretary of Technology for the Commonwealth. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Commonwealth’s Deputy Secretary of Technology and Vice President of Broadband Programs for the Center for Innovative Technology.
Jackson serves as a senior advisor to the Governor on technology matters including innovation, modeling and simulation, telecommunications, cyber security and unmanned aerial systems. She is also responsible for overseeing the Commonwealth’s IT infrastructure. Jackson also serves as the Virginia lead for the Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP).
Jackson has been actively engaged in the federal policy initiatives including the development of the National Broadband Plan. She received a 2009 IP3 award from Public Knowledge for her work in information policy and was names to the Government Technology’s 2010 list of the top 25 Doer’s, Dreamers and Drivers.
She holds a bachelor’s of science in business management from Christopher Newport University and a master’s of business administration from The College of William and Mary.
The mission of both the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and Thomas Nelson Community College, who partner to present the annual programming, is to foster dialogue that inspires and motivates excellence in business leadership.

The cost to attend the forum is $25 and includes a light breakfast. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. and the presentation will begin promptly at 8:15 a.m.
The presentation will be held at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center at 600 Butler Farm Rd in Hampton, Va.
