CONTRAdiction by Joanna Tyka
Joanna Tyka’s poem describes the upcoming art show and her life.
So is my life
so is my art
once abstract, once impressionistic landscape
once big once smaller
once with money once without
but always happy
Tyka’s exhibit will feature historic Richmond landmarks in an impressionist style and abstract paintings. How can such contradictions exist in the same space? The answer is: much in the same way that the historic and contemporary art adorns Richmond (e.g. the Capitol building in Jeffersonian style and the murals in modern 2015 style.)
Tyka speaks four languages and has lived in five different countries during her painting career. She currently resides in Richmond’s historic Southside in a house full of color where she makes her art.
