The Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival is truly a Central Viriginia experience. At our outdoor performances, the location sets the stage. Each year we choose a different place on the beautiful Sweet Briar campus to stage our production, and each year we find a more beautiful, more exciting location than the last. Our 2011 production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream was performed at an old train station against the backdrop of a mountain vista. This year’s production of The Comedy of Errors will be set in the heart amidst the gardens of the historic Sweet Briar House, originally built in the 18th century and now used as the home of the college president.
The setting is an important part of the experience, but there is more that makes the night unique. Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic both before and during the show. Local vineyards bring their best summer wines to offer tastings and glasses throughout the evening. The Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival is truly a magical experience, one that we hope to share with new audiences each and every season.
