KCBS State certified competition is a pathway to national success for BBQ contenders
Bluemont, VA – The 3rd annual Bluemont BBQ Bash and Blackberry Bonanza hosted by Great Country Farms on July 26-28 has quickly become a key step toward national prominence for BBQ enthusiasts and their fans. This official KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society) State Certified BBQ Competition is one of only a few Virginia events where competitors can qualify for the top national contests. Dan Hixon of 3 Eyz BBQ was named KCBS 2012 Team of the Year, a feat made possible by the team’s pivotal Bluemont BBQ Grand Championship. Dan explains, “Every year we plan our schedule and strive for consistent execution. The Bluemont event is flawless and attracts top competitors that push us to cook our absolute best.” Friends and fans can purchase tokens to preside at the People’s Choice Competition which donates the proceeds to the newly opened Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors.
Great Country Farms provides a bucolic setting and family farm vibe that captures the communal spirit of this uniquely American cuisine. The enthusiasm is contagious with local businesses and nonprofit organizations contributing their time and talents. There are special travel and hotel deals to bring folks together to celebrate food, family, and fun. Farmer Kate Zurschmeide remarks “We are thrilled to celebrate with the hard working competitors and exuberant fans. The Bluemont BBQ Bash has become a favorite event in a very short time.” This event makes a fun day trip for visitors to the Washington, DC Mall and monuments. Nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the historic village is surrounded by rolling hills and shade trees. The adjacent Bluemont Vineyard offers wine tastings and a panoramic view of the Loudoun Valley.
Visitors can enjoy farm style family activities including U-Pick blackberries at their peak and all ages can compete in the traditional Blackberry Bonanza Dessert Competition. The Country Store features pre-picked berries, locally raised meat, dairy, produce, and artist’s gifts. Kids love the unique 5 acre play ground that includes a Giant Jumping Pillow, rope swings & mazes, tractor rides and more. Enjoy the annual Waiter’s Race, tie dying ‘Got Berries?’ souvenir T-shirts, and much more.
