– In its fifth year of attention-getting breast health advocacy, Beyond Boobs will host once again its Pink Carpet Gala unveiling the much sought-after "A Calendar to Live By" 2012. This beautifully photographed calendar contains a “breast health manual” that includes life-saving information such as what every woman needs to know to “take charge” of her own breast health, risk factors, early detection guidelines, how to provide comfort to a friend diagnosed with breast cancer, and even what to do if you find yourself launched into the “sisterhood” that no one wants to join.
Taking center stage at the Gala, themed "Bloom Where You Are Planted," are 12 diagnosed young cancer survivors, turned breast health advocates, whose inspiring stories are shared on each month's pages. The 2012 Calendar is the group’s fifth, and they are just getting started. They plan to spread their unique brand of breast health education for all women and support for young women diagnosed with breast cancer throughout Virginia and beyond. Currently they have four support “systems” running from Virginia Beach to Richmond, with more in the works.
The "stars" will arrive in a hot pink Hummer limo and stroll up the Pink Carpet to be introduced to their awaiting fans. "The Pink Carpet Event is an inspirational soiree celebrating life and bringing focus on the importance of taking charge of your breast health to ensure early detection -- the best weapon against breast cancer," says co-founder Mary Beth Gibson, who is currently cancer free. "As cancer survivors, there is so much we didn't know before our diagnosis that we want all women and the men who love them to know, with the hope of preventing this disease from affecting so many lives unnecessarily," she added. The “Good Heath Fairy,” also known as co-founder Rene Bowditch, will also be there to emphasize the lifesaving importance of taking charge of your breast health.
The Pink Carpet Gala is happening on Saturday, September 17 from 6:30 - 10:00 pm at Walsingham Academy, 1100 Jamestown Road in Williamsburg. Tickets for the fundraiser are $75 per person or two for $140, which includes a "stand up" dinner and drinks, a calendar that can be signed that evening, a raffle, live music and dancing with “Impulse.” Attire is “Denim to Diamonds.”
Want To Go? Tickets to the Gala can be purchased at www.beyondboobsinc.org. or by calling Mary Beth Gibson at (757) 870-7758.
