Author and columnist Mary Wakefield Buxton will present a program on the Pulitzer Prize winning novelist, William Styron, from 3-5pm at a literary high tea at the Waterman’s Museum (309 Water St.) in Yorktown on March 23. The title of her presentation is “William Styron: The Making of our World Famous Author.” Tickets for the event can be purchased by calling the Carrot Tree Restaurant.
Buxton's novel, "The Private War of William Styron," explores the war Styron fought against the cruelty of circumstance for the prize of his own soul and future, before he gained international recognition for his novel, "Sophie’s Choice." Buxton has unique insight into Styron's life, as she was related to the late novelist and knew him well.
The Carrot Tree Restaurant in Yorktown serves a delicious English “high tea” of gourmet sandwiches, cookies and cakes, which will preceded the talk. For tickets, call 757-988-1999.
