25 WHIMSICAL WORKS OF ART
Vicki Bruner describes herself as “a 3-dimensional cloth sculpture weaver…weaving inside of found objects.” You may have seen her soft sculptures and paintings in various galleries and museums including the Salvador Dali Museum, Craftsman Gallery, St Petersburg, Florida Art Center, VMFA shops and on the HGTV That's Clever, Episode 452 as well as galleries and upscale restaurants in Richmond. Arthur Jett, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia, brings this 25-piece collection to Art Works in memory of his wife, Mary Ruth. Art Works is pleased to present this opportunity for the public to acquire the very special artwork of Vicki Bruner.
In his book Flying Colors, Tim Lefen tells about his introduction 10 years ago to a group of severely challenged students. None of them could walk and all lacked the use of their hands. Only one of them could talk. Lefen was facing the gradual loss of his eyesight and knowing the power of art, set out to enable the students to paint despite their physical difficulties. He developed the A.R. T. (Artistic Realization Technologies) program that makes use of technologies (computers, laser pointers and more) as instruments with which the students (aka artists) use to instruct trained assistants (aka trackers) to be their arms and hands in painting, photographing and sculpting.
Easter Seals UCP and Lefen are establishing this program in Richmond. Art Works provides the facility for training and contacts that get trained to be the assistants/trackers. A studio at Art Works has been set-aside as the place where the trackers meet with the artists, one-on-one at least weekly to produce art. We are excited and honored to be part of this program and the community. The artwork will be on exhibit and for sale at Art Works on an ongoing basis as it is created.
GROUND METAL ART by Steven Lloyd
Automotive painting was the beginning of a painting process for Steven Lloyd and for the past six years he’s been perfecting the process of color adjustment, blending and graphics to produce GROUND METAL ART. The metal wall art goes beyond shape and construction and integrates color variation and light refraction into the pieces. Steven Lloyd is a resident artist at Art Works in studio 203 and has exhibited his award winning work in various galleries and shows in the Richmond area.
