Join us for this special lecture on an intriguing individual (included with Museum admission).
Decimus Et. Ultimus Barziza born in Williamsburg, Virginia had a life typical of his generation raised on the verge of the Civil War. However, his Civil War experiences are far from average. He fought with the 4th Texas Infantry, suffered two wounds and escaped from a Union Prison and ran the Union naval blockade. After the war Decimus became a vehement anti-reconstruction Democrat and prominent Texas politician where his exploits are outlandish. Join us for an hour to hear about Barziza's incredible life during the volatile years before, during and after the Civil War.
Drew Gruber, who works for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation has been intensely researching, writing and lecturing about Barziza for the last several years. Gruber holds a B.A. from the University of Mary Washington and a M.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University.
