Alexandra Chiou is a Richmond native, and a May 2011 graduate from the University of Virginia where she double majored in business and studio art. In her first solo exhibition, she aims to explore the complex parallels between geography, the natural world, and the human body. She first became interested in portraying the landscape in its untouched, primal state during her travels in Southeast Asia. Likewise, she has always been interested in organic forms, and desired to understand the common threads of life from a philosophical and scientific perspective. She marries these themes in her work by utilizing forms, shapes and colors synonymous with nature, anatomy, and the cosmos, symbolizing the common origin of all life forms. Ultimately, Alex's paintings reflect her endeavor to portray, explore and celebrate the inception of life as we know it. This exhibit will be in the Jane Sandelin Gallery

Formerly funded by Easter Seals UCP, A.R.T. in RVA is seeking their own non-profit status and will be putting on a full-blown exhibition and fundraiser July 26th, at Art Works. But this month you will be getting a preview and have the opportunity to meet some of the artists and donate toward keeping this program alive and flourishing in Richmond. The exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery East and will feature art made by the artists of A.R.T. RVA.
