Fast becoming known as an arts destination, Lexington and surrounding Rockbridge County, Virginia will welcome hundreds of guests this spring to the 2nd Annual Lexington Rockbridge Studio Tour, featuring the work of 36 artists and 11 private art studios.
Located along busy city streets and tucked down rural mountain lanes, these studios--from log cabin to industrial warehouse, from treehouse to remodeled garage--reflect the personalities of the artists and present the tools of their craft. Studios will also host additional guest artists for the two-day event, bringing the number of exhibiting participants to 36.
The self-guided tour is along a well-marked 20-mile loop through the historic town of Lexington and the rolling hills and rivers of Rockbridge County. Many artists will offer on-going demonstrations, and all artists will answer questions about their work and techniques.
Disciplines include pottery, ironwork, painting, photography, jewelry design, glassblowing, sculpture, weaving, basketry, assemblage and on-site portraiture. Works will be for sale at every studio. Prices range from $20 to $20,000, reflecting the diversity of the offerings. Visitors who tour all 11 studios and turn in an entry form will have a chance to win a $300 gift certificate good at any of the studios.
Refreshments will be available at each studio site, and there will be meal options along the route. Local lodging and food establishments are also offering tour specials.
