Virginia Living—a bi-monthly regional magazine with a circulation of 25,000 and a national audience of readers who love all things Virginia—is seeking a new Editor to direct its editorial department.

The magazine is published in a 10x13-inch, wide-scale format, and on high-quality paper, which enable us to showcase the clever storytelling and gorgeous photography and illustrations that our readers have come to expect. Both editorially and visually our mission is to convey the essence of Virginia’s unique history and lifestyle in an interesting, unusual and attractive presentation.

The multi-talented candidate should not only understand the mechanics of editing a statewide magazine, but should also be comfortable in a leadership role inside and outside the organization. Solid writing skills should be married to creative story generation and the ability to put a fine polish on stories.

The role also includes responsibility for conceiving and producing six bound-in special interest supplements throughout the year as well as five ancillary titles that publish alongside our regular bi-monthly issues. They are: Weddings, House + Garden, Best of Virginia, Smoke & Salt, and Drink. Additionally, the editor directs content strategy and oversees day-to-day operations on all of the publisher’s digital and social media platforms, supervises the production of sales and marketing collateral, and participates in all brand development and promotion initiatives.

Requirements include a minimum of three years in a senior-level editing role—preferably with a national lifestyle publication—significant writing experience and proof of the ability to come up with engaging story angles and manage an editorial calendar. The successful candidate will also have experience recruiting and managing a staff, which includes a large pool of freelance writers and temporary teams working on special projects.

Working well in a team environment is essential, as is the ability to plan, execute and organize all editorial components and manage editorial workflow and production timelines on a strict deadline and budget.

We offer competitive salary and 401K, as well as paid holidays and vacation.
