23-year-old Chester native Nikki Poteet, who last November was crowned 2011 Miss Virginia USA, isn’t any ordinary looker. This beauty who will compete for the title of Miss USA on June 19 has a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from VCU, and currently works as a radiation safety engineer for Dominion Resources. Poteet is the first-ever Miss Virginia USA to be a nuclear engineer. “I promote girls getting involved in science and engineering,” she says.
