The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) recently partnered with Chicago-based SimPartners and E-Brains, Inc., a Virginia-based online marketing and tourism company, to develop a “Virginia is for Lovers” iPhone app. According to the VTC, it is the first ever mobile visitor’s guide offered by a statewide tourism organization. VTC PR Director Tamra Talmadge-Anderson says the app uses a lot of info “directly gathered from Virginia tourists.”

Among the app’s features are “Near Me,” which shows points of interest within a 15-mile radius of the user’s location; “Categories,” which ranges from Museums to Nightlife to Sports and Recreation; and even listings of pet-friendly attractions and destinations organized by locality. Best of all, the app is free, as all the listings are directly linked to the Virginia Tourism website.
