Lady Gaga - Feature

Gerald Hubert

Little Monsters Invade C-Ville: Lady Gaga brings her worldwide tour known as The Monster Ball to Charlottesville’s John Paul Jones Arena Wednesday, September 8. A few miles away downtown, Skylight Studios continues with its exhibition of Virginia-based artist Gerald Hubert’s collection of Lady Gaga oil paintings. The showing runs through September 20.

Eat, Play, Drink: Well, YOU won’t be the one playing, but you can watch the Polo players do their thing while sampling some of the best wines and gourmet foods the region has to offer at The Wine Festival at the Plains. In addition to vino tastings, this two-day event (September 11-12) at the Great Meadow Event Center features a fancy hat contest, fine art market, and traditional half-time divot stomps.

And Drink Some More: It’s a busy week in C-ville, with the Top of the Hops Beer Festival taking place at the Pavilion downtown on Saturday. Sample among 150 craft beers from brewers all over the world while listening to the musical stylings of Speaking of the Elephant and Rock River Gypsies and brushing up on your beer knowledge at the Greatbrewers.com Brew University Education Tent.

Brain Freeze: If beer isn't for you, head to Northern Virginia for a family-friendly day of free art activities at the Alexandria Arts Festival and Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser, also this Saturday at the Market Square in Old Town. While you are there, show your support for the Art League’s Ceramics Program by buying a bowl of artisanal ice cream from Del Ray’s own ACKA Cocoa Bar. With the forecast calling for temps in the upper 80s that day, you might need two bowls.

VT v. JMU: Make a trip to Blacksburg to see if the Hokies will rebound from Monday's loss to Boise State with a win against the JMU Dukes. The two Virginia teams square off at Lane Stadium on Saturday at 1:30pm. The Cavaliers are away on the 11th, playing a late game (for those of us on east coast, this is) against the USC Trojans in Los Angeles. Game starts at 7:30pm PT/10:30pm ET.
