Finding locally produced food should be easy, right?

  • I love Dominion Harvest

Dominion Harvest is great. The produce is so clean and fresh, the eggs, cheese and bread are amazing and we've also enjoyed a few chickens. so convenient- and you stated it well- the farmers market is a great field trip- but with 2 little kids- we were often missing the opportunity- now we've been eating local produce all season and look forward to what the box will look like this winter!

  • Dominion Harvest

I love Dominion Harvest. It gives my family and I a variety of vegetables that we wouldn't normally buy. It's great to try the new foods with the recipes that Dominion Harvest e-mails out on Fridays. We love have the fresh foods in the house and trade anything we really don't like with some other friends.

  • You can choose some in shares

I get shares from Dominion Harvest, and told them I do not want any eggplant. They substitute other produce for eggplant. I hadn't thought to tell them not to send me okra, and when I got it, I thought I should give it a try. I loved it! Now I go out of my way to buy okra. (I had tried eggplant - ick.). Probably not all CSA's allow you to pick and choose. I also buy "off the menu" from offthevinemarket.com

  • Local Food

Yeah the only problem I have found with CSA's is that you are given what they want to give you. In other words, if rubarb is in season but you don't like rubarb you get it anyway. You cannot pick and choose you simply get what the farmer has available whether you like the item or not. This proves for a waste of food in my mind. I would much rather grow my own.

  • Grow

I would also suggest learning to grow your own, compost, rotate crops, etc. I think it's a worthwhile endeavor.
