The first show in Russell/Projects’ new summer home at 418 West Briad in Richmond will be “The House Paintings” by Louis Poole. “The House Paintings” will open with a champagne preview from 4:00-6:00 pm on Friday, May 6, followed by the First Friday reception from 6:00-8:30 p.m. The show runs through the end of May, with galley hours Thursday – Friday 12-6 and Saturdays 12-4.

Louis Poole is an accomplished artist from Richmond, Virginia, and a 1982 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Painting and Printmaking. Poole will show 8-10 new paintings, with some great new directions in his work. For the first time, Poole focuses on specific house features as the subject of his paintings, such as “Window Dormer in Purple and Orange.” He also experiments with scale; two of his new paintings measure 48” x 72” inches. His palette in this show ranges from electric blues and oranges to pale peach and lavender.

"Louis' work is special because of the loose, descriptive, gestural way he handles paint," says Richmond artist Diego Sanchez. "Everything he puts on his canvas is essential to define the form. I like his highly saturated palette, which makes his structures dynamic and bold."

While you’re checking out Louis’ work at Russell/Projects, make sure to keep an eye out for new Bill Fisher paintings, including some highlights from his recent VMFA exhibition.
