Do you like this?

Primary Colors

Christine Ennulat

A recent Blue Plate Special at the Wordy homestead:

—a nice piece of fish, in this case cod, pan-fried in this oil with salt and pepper

—local squash, steamed with onions and a little butter, salt and pepper

—heirloom tomatoes from our garden, sliced, drizzled with olive oil (plain) and sprinkled with salt and pepper (I would have added some little chiffonades of basil if I'd thought of it)

—mixed green salad, some of which you might recognize from here, adorned only with a drizzle of olive oil and some salt and pepper ... probably more than was strictly necessary.

Sound boring? It wasn't—trust me.

What's your favorite summer meal?

  • Summer Food

Dixie chicken; watermelon with mint; grilled salmon with basil-nectarine relish; grilled kielbasa with carmelized onions; potato salad (that's not too mayonnaisey); my secret-ingredient turkey burgers with a big slab of tomato and lots of bibb lettuce; corn on the cob (dripping with butter); cucumbers with vinegar, thinly-sliced red onions and a pinch of sugar; BLTs (with thick-cut bacon); gazpacho; quinoa salad (smelling like limes and cilantro); any type of ceviche. I could go on, but I'm starting to get hungry.
