Virginia will spend $150 million on roads this year. Why not spend some on a greenway instead?

Thank you Tricia for your excellent article and for helping to get the word out about this incredible project - the East Coast Greenway and its parts! I'm especially pleased that Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones has created a Pedestrian, Bicycling and Trails Planning Commission to support pedestrian and bicycle travel throughout the City of Richmond. In addition, Richmond's Planning Commission and Urban Design Committee moved the Cannon Creek Greenway a step forward recently by agreeing on the route the greenway will take through Richmond, and the National Guard has recently volunteered some labor and equipment to help develop this trail - all good news!

  • ECG Green

Just a small fraction of that money would complete the ECG through Virginia.

We need to get our priorities straight in this country ... We consume 400 million gallons of gasoline each and every Day! Who are we making RICH by doing this?

Have you checked Gas Prices Lately? We need the option to ride our bikes safely.

The East Coast Greenway is part of the Solution - spending 150 million on roads - is more of the same Problem!

  • Greenways

A superb post by Tricia Pearsall. Multi-use trails such as the East Coast Greenway boost recreation, transportation, tourism $, and public health. VA spends up to $3B/year to treat obesity. Why not invest a few million on something that would actually help treat and prevent it? It's an investment in everyone's future.
